Laurel holds degrees in political science and journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Much to our benefit, Laurel is CELD's curriculum and proposal writer extraordinare. Her extracurricular activities include reading (check out her book review blog), cooking (Top Chef is a bit of an obsession), and hanging out with her very cute and exceptionally gifted grandchildren, Meleah and Zann.  Despite a generally cynical view of the world, she believes the Fighting Illini will win the NCAA basketball championship in her lifetime.
